Each 4th grade class “adopts” an elder who tells his or her story. Artist Larry Long guides students as they listen to the stories and develop songs and narrations from their spoken words.
Teachers in sixth grade provide authentic opportunities for students to apply academic skills and create a positive emotional environment in which praise for student efforts are guaranteed through the activities embedded in an artist residency with Joko Sutrisno, an Indonesian gamelan conductor, and his wife Tri, who teaches traditional Indonesian dance.
8th grade students are empowered by the process of finding their artistic voice and understanding the impact art can have on society. They share their message through a self-selected medium that best fits their creative lense in a performance culminating years of exploration.
FAIR School Crystal's staff members are intentional about fostering an environment of interdisciplinary instruction. Interdisciplinary instruction is a way of organizing content so that students learn what is unique to each subject as well as learning concepts and processes that different subjects have in common.
